WarnerMedia to remake ITV gameshow ‘The Cube’ for US audiences[addthis tool="addthis_inline_share_toolbox_p9bf"]
WarnerMedia has ordered a US remake of The Cube, the UK gameshow format that airs on ITV.
The 10 x 60-minute show is being produced by All3Media-owned Objective Media Group America, with former NBA star Dwyane Wade hosting.
Wade also exec produces while his production company, 59th & Prairie Entertainment, will also produce with Layla Smith and Jilly Pearce for Objective.
The show features pairs of contestants who must demonstrate skill, nerve and determination by braving The Cube, where they attempt seemingly simple physical tasks within the confines of a glass box in the hope of winning a major cash prize.
Working against the clock, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games, each worth an increasing amount of money, as they move closer to the jackpot. The show will debut next year, although broadcast details have not been confirmed.
“Honestly, I can’t believe it hasn’t been snapped up here in the US before now,” said Corie Henson, EVP and head of unscripted programming for TBS, TNT and truTV. “It is a visually stunning, but super simple game that everyone can play and almost no one can win.”
The US series will introduce a ‘helping-hand’ component, which will see Wade entering The Cube and lend his athletic prowess on behalf of the contestant. The latest augmented GFX and camera technology will also be used.
The format was created by Objective and is sold by All3Media International. Last week ITV revealed it was launching a rebooted version of the show, The Million Pound Cube, to be produced by Objective label Wildcard.
