WarnerMedia to launch HBO Max originals in Asia via channels & HBO Go

Love Life

WarnerMedia is rolling out at least 15 originals commissioned by its recently launched US SVOD HBO Max in Asia via the company’s channel portfolio and its pre-existing streamer HBO Go.

The programming slate, which WarnerMedia said had been curated “to suit the taste of Asian audiences”, includes comedy and drama series such as Anna Kendrick-starring Love Life, Ridley Scott’s US reboot of UK show Raised By Wolves, Kaley Cuoco’s Flight Attendant and novel adaptation Made For Love.

Kida and family offerings available across Asia will include The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, Looney Tunes Cartoons and Sesame Street, while movies such as UNpregnant and Steven Soderbergh’s Let Them All Talk will also feature.

The deal, which has seen episodes of Love Life and The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo already air, suggests WarnerMedia has no immediate plans to launch its new streamer into Asia and comes less than a month since HBO Go expanded its availability across the region following deals with a raft of local telcos.

Following its launch in the US earlier this week, the SVOD is instead now focusing on launching in Latin America and then Europe, although it remains unclear when a launch in the latter will take place because of pre-existing deals.

Last year, Comcast-backed pay TV operator Sky secured a five-year extension to its output deal with HBO and is set to co-produce on series being created for HBO Max, as revealed by TBI.
