Ngwato Nkosi Group (NNG) is a major player in the African media and Entertainment industry. NNG operates three primary channels: Play Room, a children’s edutainment channel; Newzroom Afrika, a 24-hour news service; and Movieroom, which focuses on movies. Each channel serves a distinct audience but collectively contributes to NNG's footprint in African media.


Challenges


NNG faced several challenges maintaining viewer interest and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving media landscape. The primary challenge was sourcing diverse, high-quality content suitable for their varied channel offerings. Additionally, NNG needed to keep its programming fresh and engaging to retain viewership, especially in competition with other niche urban streaming services.


Solution


To address these challenges, allrites and NNG entered into a nonexclusive Pay TV agreement for Content as a Service (CaaS). This arrangement included 200 hours of premium titles, with a rotation allowance every quarter to ensure content freshness. This solution specifically tackled the need for diverse content by delivering English-speaking movies, kids’ content, and documentaries with appropriate rights. Moreover, including high-demand titles from providers like Mattel significantly boosted NNG's premium content offerings.


Implementation


The implementation phase involved regular interaction with key contacts at NNG to ensure the content delivered was in line with their expectations and audience preferences. allrites provided a mix of movies, documentaries, and kids’ content, adhering closely to NNG's content brief. To keep the content relevant and engaging, allrites implemented a strategy of regular content updates and negotiated for high-quality series. Communication was maintained bi-weekly and monthly to assess content satisfaction and relevance.

Partnership Results


The partnership led to increased viewer engagement, as evidenced by the positive feedback on the content's performance and viewer retention rates. The premium content satisfied current viewers and opened discussions on introducing hybrid packages that could offer even more premium content. There is a high probability that the partnership will evolve towards a more extensive hybrid package, blending premium with CaaS content tiers, to enhance viewer satisfaction and engagement further.
