Netflix has renewed its Regency-era period drama Bridgerton for a second season, with production set to begin this spring.

The show, from US prodco Shondaland and creator Chris Van Dusen, and based on the novels of Julia Quinn, follows the love lives of the various siblings of the wealthy Bridgerton family

The first season was particularly focused on daughter Daphne and her romance with the Duke of Hastings, while the second it has now been revealed is set to focus on eldest sibling Anthony in his search for a suitable match.

The announcement of the show’s return was made in the style of a letter penned by the character of Lady Whistledown, writing: “This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season.”

This would appear to confirm that it will be an adaptation of The Viscount Who Loved Me, the second book in Quinn’s Bridgerton series, with season one already having closely followed the first novel The Duke and I.

Casting for the second season is said to be underway with reports also suggesting that while the season one cast will return, some of their parts may be reduced as the show turns to focus more on the Anthony character for its second run.
