Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is to exec produce and narrate a new docuseries for HBO Max inspired by and named after the popular Twitter account One Perfect Shot.
The original Twitter account celebrates iconic shots from films and TV shows, while each episode of this half-hour unscripted series will see one acclaimed director “pull back the curtain” on their most famous movie moments.
Produced by Warner Horizon Unscripted Television with DuVernay’s production company, Array Filmworks, the series will see these directors digitally enter each shot, walking through a scene to provide viewers with an immersive exploration of filmmaking, The directors will also share the challenges they had to overcome and lessons they had to learn to create their crowning cinematic achievements.
This latest partnership between Array Filmworks and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television follows last month’s announcement that 10-part social experiment series Home Sweet Home had been set at NBC.
DuVernay, meanwhile, recently won a Bafta in the international category for US crime drama When They See Us, and in June was commissioned by Netflix to produce a new limited drama series about the adolescent years of athlete and activist Colin Kaepernick.
“I’ve long wanted to create a series about the art of directing,” said DuVernay of One Perfect Shot. “To chronicle the craft of great filmmakers is a dream come true for me and all of us at Array Filmworks. We’re thrilled that our partners at Warner Horizon Unscripted Television embraced this idea and look forward to fully geeking out over movies with our friends at HBO Max.”
“There is nothing more fascinating than witnessing the passion and creativity of a filmmaker discussing their craft and dissecting how they pulled off that jaw-dropping shot,” added Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.
